TAWAS is building such a welcoming community in Glasgow, and I am so proud to support a group that brings people together through dance, health, and shared heritage.
TAWAS shows how powerful inclusive arts can be. Seeing my daughter flourish on stage and me joining the other mothers in performing has been deeply rewarding. I'm honored to be a member supporting TAWAS as we celebrate diversity, movement, and community spirit

My passion for classical dance began when I was nine years old girl in Delhi . I still remember watching my best friend learning it and showing me all the movements in school at lunch time . I was fascinated by it and felt like her movements were telling stories without words. So , I also asked at home to join the dance classes but my grandmother didn’t allow me to learn it. After that my Dad got posted to another station and then to various other places. My desire to learn kathak dance was not fulfilled.
Many years later in Glasgow, I met with Sudakshina who is a very passionate kathak dancer and runs Academy called ‘ Tawas ‘as well. I have always admired her dedication towards classical dance. She works for few other projects as well in community through ‘ Tawas’
Whenever I get time , I volunteer to help her . Helping in TAWAStaught me how much hard work goes into keeping classical dance alive. It made me proud to support my friend and be a small part of spreading ‘ kathak ‘ which is very close to my heart from my childhood .

I have been learning Kathak with Sudakshina and really enjoy supporting the voluntary work of TAWAS, which gives me great pleasure and a strong sense of fulfilment.
I particularly value TAWAS’s work with people living with dementia, their carers and family members, as well as older people in our communities. I love being part of community events that bring people together, strengthen connections and create a sense of belonging.
One of the things I enjoy most is helping with TAWAS’s beautiful cultural celebrations, including dance events and Glasgow Garba, where more than 200 people come together to dance, make new friendships and celebrate our culture.
Volunteering with TAWAS gives me the opportunity to contribute to something meaningful while meeting people, sharing experiences and being part of a warm and welcoming community. I am very happy to volunteer with TAWAS and support its work through dance, culture, creativity and community.
